Problem

After creating a backup of the virtual machine, checking the backup destination you see that the backup files have a future creation date.

Solution

If you have the Immutable backup option set to greater than zero in the backup destination settings, this is the desired behavior.

The file date on a backup destination may appear to be from the future, but this is the intended behavior related to the mechanics of this feature. This behavior is because "immutable backup" is intended to protect the backup against modification or deletion for a specified period of time. In fact, this date is not from the future - it is a date that informs about the immutability state of the backup.

On backup destination you can check the "immutable" flag using this command:

lsattr /file_on_backup_destination

For example:

[root@centos-8-stream ~]# lsattr /vprotect_data/backups/alpinelinux3.8__6c30b5b4/vprotect_data/alpinelinux3.8__6c30b5b4/alpinelinux3.8.qcow2/1698402772729 ----i--------------- /vprotect_data/backups/alpinelinux3.8__6c30b5b4/vprotect_data/alpinelinux3.8__6c30b5b4/alpinelinux3.8.qcow2/1698402772729
